Hello all--
First, thanks to Margaret for thinking of a blog!
Nancy Kraft, who is a specialist in library preservation (and particularly flooding) will be helping us with our cleanup efforts. She and I are trying to set up a meeting with other affected organizations so we can all work together. FEMA will be involved as well.
As of now, we still can't get in to assess (as Karen posted.) When we can, first order of business will be to move the Unicorn server (probably to Marion) so we won't be running West (and the other MEtro libraries) on standalone for too long.
As soon as we can get in and assess the situation, we'll be calling staff in to help. I don't know the process or procedure yet, but there will be plenty of work to do!
I saw Dennis M, the Board member today as we were trying to get in (his law firm was also flooded.) He gave me a hug and reminded me that we'll get through this . Our staff is safe, and maybe this will just move the building program forward faster than we expected. In an odd way, this could end up being a blessing in disguise in the long run.
I keep trying to focus on those positives: the best part of the library--the staff--is safe & strong.
