Patron questions...
I've been in contact with many people who have asked me: 1) How & when they can help the library recover and 2) what they should do about items they have checked out on their cards. Some did not know when their materials were due, others wondered if they should return the items now, or whether it would be helpful for them to keep the materials safe while the building dries out. I didn't know what to tell them. Have we decided how we will be handling offers of help &/or overdue items?

I was part of the West staff this morning and encountered similar questions. Per Tamara and Christina we are asking all patrons to hold their items at home "until further notice". While we are on Standalone we cannot check the items in, which means they cannot circulate and are taking up the little space we have there at this point. If patrons walk in with their returns we accept them, and we also check the book drops regularly, but prefer materials not be returned at this time. When we are ready for the returns we will advise the public. Until that time, fines will not accrue, and Unique has been advised to suspend accounts.
As far as volunteers are concerned, we have started a list with names and phone numbers at West that we can turn over to Marie Devries. It doesn't sound like staff or general public will be helping with the raw clean-up as the City will have this handled by professionals due to possible hazardous conditions. However, there could be other needs afterwards.
